We gave these new flyers out at the Farmer's Market yesterday between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  A lot of people stopped to talk with us and inquire about the odd-looking Jerusalem Artichokes we had on display, and gave away free. Thanks to gardener Reed for donating the artichokes. They taste like water chestnuts or a mild jicama root when eaten raw. They also may be roasted or planted. A man from Main stopped by and commented that this type of artichoke is considered an obnoxious weed in his part of the country. I said that we're grateful for anything that can grow in our part of the country!
Linda, Camille, Kelly, Hali, and others assisted at the booth.

Here are some scenes of the garden in December 2013.
Follow the signs to the garden
We're at the NW corner of Warner and 48th St. north of the Farmers' Market and the tennis courts
Welcome to your community garden!
We're planting carrots, radishes, lettuce
Sturdy signs were donated. We use a Sharpie to write down what we plant.
We cover the newly planted seeds with tulle fabric so the birds can't eat the seeds.
Red mustard
Marigolds with carrots and lettuce growing behind them.

    Ahwatukee Community Garden Beauty

I started coming to the Sunday gardening group in the fall of 2013. I've learned a lot and have forged new friendships with other earth lovers.  Master Gardeners Linda and Bob have so much knowledge they freely give the rest of us! Bill and I became Master Gardeners as well in 2014 ~ Kelly Athena
